Shelley Taylor-Smith, Women’s World No.1 Marathon Swimming Champion – 7 consecutive years (1988-1995), shares with you first hand her passion for Open Water Swimming…
“I’m committed to sharing my passion for all things WET in the Open Water!”
So it’s therefore not surprising that I find myself sharing my 30+years of my open water swimming experiences, knowledge and insights with the Team STS Tours.
Since retiring from representing Australia from international competition in 1998; my energies have been focused on supporting individuals and teams to master the skill of open water swimming; sharing my passion with individuals of all levels from international to masters and first timers to recreational.
In recent times I’ve worked alongside sporting clubs such as Australian Swimming Team, Brazil Swimming Federation including Brazil Swimming Coaches, Masters Swimmers, Referees and Officials, Western Australian Surf Lifesaving High Performance Team, Australian Surf Lifesaving Clubs and Western Australian Masters Swimming Clubs.
Serving as FINA Athletes Commission Chairperson and elevated to FINA Open Water Swimming Committee Honorary Secretary 2000-2009; I had the opportunity to teach open water swimming clinics to coaches, referees and officials, and support national swimming federations and organising committees prepare, plan and co-ordinate over 50 FINA World Marathon Swimming World Cups, Grand Prix and World Swimming Championships.
My greatest honour and privilege was working alongside the Beijing Olympic Committee training officials and volunteers for the inaugural 10km Olympic Marathon Swim in the Beijing Olympic Games 2008.
